How many barcodes do you need?
Checked against the sources on this page on
Count every variation you sell, because each one needs its own barcode. Size, colour, style and pack each multiply the total.
How to count
GS1 US gives this example for a T-shirt:
| The shirt comes in | Barcodes |
|---|---|
| 3 sizes × 3 colours | 9 |
| 3 sizes × 3 colours × 3 styles | 27 |
| 3 sizes × 3 colours × 3 styles × 3 packs | 81 |
Add the products you expect to launch. A GS1 Company Prefix comes with a fixed capacity, the maximum number of unique products you can identify under that licence.

| 10 | $250 | $50 |
| 100 | $750 | $150 |

Single GTIN or Company Prefix
GS1 US suggests a single GTIN if you only have a few products. It is not available for pharmaceutical products, variable measure products, mixed cases or coupons.
A Company Prefix lets you create several barcodes at once and also identify locations, mixed cases, coupons and higher packaging levels such as a case or pallet.
